May Measurement Month is a global blood pressure (BP) screening awareness campaign aimed at highlighting the importance of measuring BP and the dangers associated with hypertension.
It takes place between 1st May and 31st July every year, and since it was founded in 2017, has seen volunteers in more than 100 countries screening people in towns, cities and rural villages across the world.
Raised BP is the number one cause of preventable deaths worldwide, and May Measure Month’s mission is to not only raise awareness of this and get more people taking action for their own health, but they also use the data collected during the campaign in research to motivate governments to improve screening facilities and reduce the huge global burden of disease and death caused by raised BP.
How to get involved
If you would like to help conduct screenings or find out where some might be taking place, you can contact May Measure Month here. Or, let us know at admin@ncrn.uk.
You can also complete a self-test if you have access to a BP machine at home and submit your results to the campaign, which you can find out more about here.
Resources
If you are conducting your screenings within your community, there are a number of resources you can use from May Measure Month to promote and run the event, from posters and social media graphics to banners and forms.
There is also an app you can use to capture data and BP readings; you can find more information on how to use it here.
